The South Islands trips is our most popular. This 6 day, 5 night route offers a nice mix between a kayak expedition and a relaxing island vacation. We'll change campsites every second night, and have the option to paddle every day, while still leaving lots of time to swim, snorkel, hike, or just relax on the beach. We will explore the islands of Danzante and Carmen, stopping at our favorite beaches. This is also a great trip for beginners or families with children.
Day 0: You will need to be in Loreto on 'Day 0' (the day prior to start of our trip) for the pre-trip orientation, to meet the group and to go shopping for our trip food and supplies. Your guides will be there to help with the shopping, meal suggestions, and recommendations on food quantities.
Day 1: We will pick you and your gear up at your hotel around 8:00 am and drive south to Puerto Escondido where we will launch for our trip. Once at the beach will will have a kayaking orientation and discuss safety, route plans, and kayak packing tips.
We will paddle about 1.5 hours across to Isla Danzante, take a break, and then continue paddling for another hour across to Isla Carmen where we will spend the first few days of our trip.
Day 2 - 5: The exact route plan will be decided by group preference and weather conditions. The great thing about the South Islands trip is that it is very versatile. We can adjust it to fit any interest or skill level. Options to spend a few days at the same beach 'base camping' will be put to the group. Usually we will spend the first 2 or 3 days exploring the large island of Carmen, leaving ruggedly beautiful Danzante Island for our last few days.
Our average day will consist of: a relaxing breakfast on the beach, then getting on the water for some fun paddling and wildlife viewing. By lunchtime we are usually at our next campsite and can spend the afternoon exploring the island, snorkeling, hiking, or just relaxing on the beach.
Day 6: On our last night we camp on Danzante Island, making the final morning an easy and relaxed one. After breakfast and a final swim, we'll load the kayaks and paddle the one-hour crossing back to Puerto Escondido where we will meet the taxis for the short drive back into Loreto.
Usually our groups choose to go out for a final celebration dinner on this night at one of the many excellent restaurants in Loreto.
