The Experience
This is our newest route and definitely one of our most exciting. We created this route because it’s one we really like and one that people have been asking for over the last 4 years. It’s designed for moderate to advanced paddlers. It’s a nice mix of a few long days along some exposed coastline, and a few days near the end relaxing on some of the beautiful beaches at the south end of Isla Carmen; and if time allows, a day or two to explore Isla Danzante on the way home.

Itinerary
Day 0
The day before we start our journey. A day to shop for food and drink supplies for the trip. We will meet at Café Ole at 4:00 pm local time (be sure to change your watch to Mountain Time). Once we have met the group we will walk to El Pescador Supermarket to do our trip shopping together and load all the food into our Taxi shuttle van. This night we stay in Loreto, so you will need to book a hotel, bungalow, or campsite. Ask us for our recommendations; see our Loreto Accommodations blog post for hotel listings. Day 1
8:00 a.m. we pick you up from your hotel and drive 30 minutes out to our launch site near Puerto Escondito. We will paddle past Isla Danzante to Isla Carmen where we will stop for lunch at one of the beautiful southern beaches.

Day 2
From here onward the trip is entirely weather dependant, but we will most likely be paddling north along the eastern side first. After breakfast we’ll head out and aim for Arroyo Blanco or Punta Colorado for our next camp spot.

Day 3
There is a really nice spot called Punta Gavilones, or ‘P-14’. There is a fresh water source here for those who want to cool off or rinse the salt out of your clothes.

Day 4
Our next campsite will be Salinas. This is the site of an old sea salt works, and has an old ghost town we can explore.

Day 5
We’ll try to get somewhere near Punta la Launcha. This will set us up nicely to make our run around the northern point.

Day 6
The camp spots on the northern tip of Carmen are few and far between so we may need to wait for some nice weather before heading out, but the goal is camp at Bahia Oto.

Day 7
Puerto Balandra is our next campsite. This beautiful bay is named after the first boat ever constructed (by the Spanish) on the Baja Peninsula.

Day 8-9
In the morning we’ll keep paddling south past the cliffs towards the southern tip of Carmen. There will be options for the last 2 nights: Stay and visit the white sand beaches of Carmen, or explore the beautifully rugged Island of Danzante.

Day 10
Pickup at Playa El Quemado (sunburn in Spanish) by 11:00 am and then drive back to Loreto for a cold drink and some fish tacos! (transportation included in cost).
