"Well it was just another wonderful Baja kayak tour with great weather, fine beach campsites, star gazing and nightly checks of the position of the moons of Jupiter, snorkeling, hiking, bird watching, and on and on. Ryan and Joel were great hosts and I will be back next year for another tour."
South Islands
The Experience
The South Islands trips is our most popular. This 6 day, 5 night route offers a nice mix between a kayak expedition and a relaxing island vacation. We'll change campsites most night, and have the option to paddle every day, leaving lots of time to swim, snorkel, hike, or just relax on the beach. We will explore the islands of Danzante and Carmen, stopping at our favorite beaches. This is also a great trip for families with children.

Itinerary
You will need to be in Loreto on 'Day 0' (the dary prior to start of our trip) We will meet at 4:00pm at Cafe Ole, in downtown Loreto, for the pre-trip orientation, to meet the group, and to go shopping for our trip food and supplies. Your guides will be there to help with the shopping, meal suggestions, and recomendations on food quantities.
You will need to arrange your own accommodation in Loreto for this night. See our Accommodation Blog Post for suggestions of good places to stay.
We will pick you up at your hotel around 8:30 am to collect you and your gear for the drive south to Puerto Escondido where we will launch for our trip. Once at the beach will will have a kayaking orientation and discuss safety, route plans, and kayak packing tips.
After launching our kayaking we will paddle about 1 hour across to Isla Danzante for a break, and then continue paddling for another hour across to Isla Carmen where we will spend the first few days of our trip.
The exact route plan will be decided by group preference and weather conditions. The great thing about the South Islands trip is that it is very versatile. We can adjust it to fit any interest or skill level. Options to spend a few days at the same beach 'base camping' will be put to the group. Usually we will spend the first 2 or 3 days exploring the large island of Carmen, leaving ruggedly beautiful Danzante Island for our last few days.
Carmen Island is the largest in the national park. Due to it's size and the number of days available we are unable paddle the whole thing, so we will spend time exploring the beautiful southern section of the island. The for the final 2 or 3 days we will circumnavigate the ruggedly beautiful island of Danzante. Danzante has excellent hiking, good snorkeling and some of the nicest beaches.
Our average day will consist of: a relaxing breakfast on the beach, then getting on the water for some fun paddling and wildlife viewing, usually by lunchtime we at our next campsite and can spend the afternoon exploring the island, snorkeling, hiking, or just relaxing on the beach.
On our last night we usually camp on Danzante Island, this make the final morning an easy and relaxing one. After breakfast and a final swim, we'll load the kayaks and paddle the one-hour crossing back to Puerto Escondido where we will meet the taxis for the short drive back into Loreto.
Usually our groups choose to go out to a final dinner / celebration this night at one of the many excellent restaurants in Loreto.
You will need to arrange your own accommodation in Loreto for this night.
